The following represents a sample of the work that we have completed over the last several years.

Project #1. – Operations Redesign

 

Client:  180 bed freestanding behavioral health hospital that is part of large urban teaching hospital. Project completed under subcontract with national consulting firm. The hospital is located in South Florida.

Objective:  Redesign of inpatient and outpatient day to day operations to achieve process redesign and staff reduction goals.

Results: Established 10 teams representing all patient care departments. Worked through the teams to establish better and more efficient ways to deliver services. Key impacts included: reduced FTEs, and greater efficiencies in delivering inpatient care and  patient discharge planning.

 

Project #2. – New Program Development

 

Client: Teaching/research facility located in Boston.

Objective: Develop a new program to improve the quality of oncology care for elderly patients. Program was intended to create a teaching environment that would be attractive to new patients and physicians.  

Results: Established a strong foundation to address each of the objectives. Work included extensive market research, competitive analysis, focus groups and team building. The project champion left the facility at a key time in the project lifecycle and the project was never implemented.

 

Project #3. –Feasibility Study, Freestanding Behavioral Health Hospital

 

Client:  Acute care hospital located in a North Carolina metro area.

Objective: Determine the feasibility of developing a freestanding behavioral health facility that would serve patients coming from both the public and private sector.

 

Results: After reviewing four different facility size and profitability scenarios, it was determined that such a facility would not be profitable under current state reimbursement policies.

 

Project #4 .- Strategic Market Assessment

 

Client: Large community hospital located in southeastern Connecticut.

Objective: Create a market assessment model to track changes in market share at multiple levels (service, product line, DRG, ICD9) by town and service area. Model should be updatable on an annual basis.

Results: Established the model and incorporated annual data updates over a 4 year period. One of the annual iterations modified the model to prioritize product lines and geographic markets based on net revenue “lost” to competing hospitals.

 

Project #5.  Strategic Plan Development -

 

Client: Department of Psychiatry, Community Hospital, Metro Boston.

Objective: Create a strategic plan to articulate the department’s vision, mission and 5 year goals for staff, senior management and the board.

Results: This process is on-going.
